DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCERT:

Concert „IMPERIUM DELENDA EST” - Songs, poems, confessions, curses and a joke

It's our first stage work since the beginning of large-scale invasion. What can we say about this work? Lets say its genre is uncertain - as well as our living today. There are many voices in it overwhelmed with rage, pain and hope. There is a lot of music in it, full of struggle and freedom. We say the words written this spring, by Ukrainian poets and poetesses. We share our fears and dreams. We laugh at a joke, though it’s not quite a joke, but it’s still funny. To be honest, we made this work for ourselves, to recover by breathing at a steady pace. We hope you will do the same.

This is the first large-scale stage event since the Russian invasion of Ukraine took place. How shall we describe this piece? Let’s say its genre is uncertain- like our lives these days. One may find here both furious and painful voices and some full of hope. There are notes of struggle and freedom. It pronounces the words written this spring by Ukrainian poets. They share their fears and dreams. There is a laugh at jokes which are merely jokes but funny, still. Frankly, the artists created it to help recovery, let all breath at one pace. We do hope you will bear with us.

On 24 February 2022 Russia attacked Ukraine launching missiles, destroying cities, shelling houses and occupying villages. A quiet life put to a halt all over the country. Many people, Ukrainian men and women, including many artists, gathered together united in one day, at many levels, and became volunteers. Can a theatre life exist during war? Can it be useful? Should art be useful? Deep down, we ask ourselves a number of questions whereas, in the meantime, we support migrants, prepare lunches for people sheltered at the railway station and send humanitarian aid.

War has many facets and many voices. Theatre itself also has a voice and attempts to speak up. This is where the idea of the concert based on contemporary military poetry steams from. Six actresses will voice the poetry which tells about suffering but also about the faith in victory. With their voices, the women will attempt at expressing all the pain of this war, the courage Ukrainians have, all the anger that grows within, which, at the same time, gives the strength to fight. The mobile format of the concert, created by the actresses, gives the opportunity to screen it both in a shelter in Lviv and on stage in Łódź (during the International Theatre Festival Retrospektywy), where the life is peaceful but its residents live fighting back to back with the Ukrainians, they fight for the human values.
